Contraception & Beyond was the first out of six focused conferences planned by the FOGSI president Dr. Sanjay Gupte. Conference was held on the 6th and 7th of March 2010 at Jaipur in Rajputana Sheraton Hotel. This was also the first time that FOGSI had involvement of gynaecologists from different parts of the country in the organizing committee besides the FOGSI office bearers and local society i.e. Jaipur Obstetric & Gynaecology society.

The scientific program was of the highest quality, with the full focus being on the contraception. It was designed to engage all delegates on various topics of vital importance related to family welfare. This event was the perfect occasion for the international and national experts to share their leading edge knowledge on innovation and technology balanced by critically important insight into their practical application.

This focused conference on different aspects of contraception was  attended by  3… delegates. There was representation from government of India, government of Rajasthan, UNFPA, and various NGOs working in the field of population stabilization like PSI, JHPIEGO, FPAI and FOGSI

In the scientific program there were 12 sessions on various aspects of contraception including two keynote sessions having 3 speakers in each. There were also 4 panel discussions. The interesting part of conference was hands-on training on newer delivery systems like Implanon, NuvaRing, etc. and Postplacental IUCD insertion. The faculty had international as well as national experts on the subject. International faculty included Dr. Paul Blumenthal from USA, Dr. Hans Vemer from USA, Dr. Janesh Gupta from UK, and Dr. Loshan Moonesinghe from Srilanka. The conference was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister Bina Kak, Child & Women Health Dept. of Govt. of Rajasthan and the Guest of honour was Mr. G.S. Sandhu, Principal Sec. Health, govt. of Rajasthan.

Highlights of the conference were Dr. Amarjeet Singh,  Executive Director, Jansankhya Sthirata Kosh, Govt of India, who gave a keynote address on ‘Operationalizing public-private partnership’. Dr. Paul Blumenthal delivered a keynote address on ‘Family planning: Preserving healthier communities and environment’. There were panel discussions on IUD, Profiling patients for contraception selection, injectables and permanent contraception. Role plays on counseling for contraception in different situations were well appreciated by the delegates. Quiz on contraception was organized for the PG students. Around 23 students participated in it.
